Ecovation's most innovative product yet!
An exciting new product in our Ecofeeder range. Introducing the Ecofeeder Ultra:
Introducing a birdfeeding first; a birdfeeder which actively attracts birds through UV light reflection! Get more birds in your garden, and help the environment at the same time!
Recently, we’ve been trying to work out how to make our great Ecofeeder product even greater, and then we had a fantastic idea, and did some research which has lead to an innovative development to the Ecofeeder. In fact this idea was so fantastic that Global Enterprise Week, (who call themselves ‘the world’s largest entrepreneurial movement’) made this idea a finalist of their Enterprise Challenge which involved 29,000 people; so there’s no doubt we’re on to something.
So, what is it?
Essentially, we’ve kept all things that were good about the original Ecofeeder and added a secret ingredient; UV light reflecting paint. Birds in your garden see light differently from humans, as their eyes are more sensitive to Ultra Violet (UV) light which is part of the light the sun emits, which we humans can’t see. However, research conducted in many countries around the world, and published in science papers, has shown that birds are more attracted to food which reflects UV light to food that doesn’t. Unfortunately, birdseed and common bird food isn’t much good at reflecting UV, so we thought about how we could change this so more birds are attracted to your birdfeeder; the answer was to paint the grill in UV reflecting paint, to make your Ecofeeder look really tasty to the birds. Now you’ll have more birds on your Ecofeeder, which not only looks nicer, but also means they’ll get through your waste food faster, so even less of your kitchen waste gets thrown away. Brilliant!
This sounds good, but is this UV paint bad for the birds?
The simple answer is no. All the paint contains no toxins, is water soluble (no oil is used to water it down), and it has the same ‘minimal VOC’ content that are other paint is rated to, so the atmosphere isn’t being damaged when we paint them. Not only this, but we carefully paint 2 base coats, 2 top coats and 2 waterproof and abrasion resistant lacquers on every ecofeeder ultra; so this means that the paint won’t be falling off, your birds are happy and the environment is happy too. Perfect.
This sounds great! When can I buy one?
At the moment, the Ecofeeder ultra is in the first phase of production, so unfortunately isn’t available for order online just yet. However, if you come to the Plymouth Spring Trade Fair on Saturday the 19th of March, and go to the Sundial, we’ll be right there ready to make you the proud owner of one of the first Ecofeeder Ultras!
If you live far from Plymouth, we’ll also be making an appearance at the Stratford upon Avon Spring Trade Fair the following Saturday (that’s the 26th of March). Hope to see you there!
